We depend on many forces in our daily lives. We keep our house clean with a vacuume cleaner, our dishes sparkle because of theTips for Conserving Electricity dishwasher, our clothes smell heavenly, courtesy, the washing machine,we are entertained by the television, live without darkness with the lamp or light and all these in turn function perfectly through electricity.

Electricity or electric energy has become indispensable in our lives. We would be handicapped without it.The whole world is served through it.Imagining life without it is next to impossible.Yet, this is a stark reality in many parts of the world to this day. Many small villages in the countries of  Asia and Africa are still waiting for the light of a lamp and the sound of an electric motor.

So far electricity has been produced with non-renewable sources of energy which has been depleting at an alarming rate.As the world’s population increases,so do the demand for the electricity and the indirect demand for fossil fuels. There is an urgent need to look at alternative sources for the generation of electricity. While the research for these non-conventional sources is on,the need of the hour is to conserve electricity and prevent wastage.

We could begin by doing everything in our capacity to cut down our consumption of electricity. Here are a few tips which could help.Quite astonishingly there can be a considerable amount of reduction in your power bill.

1. To begin with the small items, lights can add a lot to your bill when kept switched on all the time.So make sure you turn them off when you don’t need them.
2. Try to soak in the natural air and turn off those AC’s.
3. Monitor your usage of the washing machine and driers.Washing machines guzzle down electricity.
4. Only run the dishwasher when it is fully loaded;adjust the water level on the washing machine for smaller loads and clean out the lint filter in your drier before every load.
5. Set your thermostat at a reasonable temperature .Set it as high or as low as you need to be comfortable, but don’t heat or cool excessively.
6. Unplug any chargers that aren’t in use because they still use electricity even when they ‘re not actively charging something.
7. Hang clothes on a clothesline instead of using a drier to conserve electricity .
8. Use your appliances efficiently to conserve electricity.Refrain from opening your oven unnecessarily because it has to work harder and use more energy to heat back up.

In addition you could install solar panels on your terrace to absorb the sunlight and generate solar power. Many responsible citizens have also started organizing energy conservation drives in their neighbourhoods and are doing their bit in bringing about a small difference. It is only through the people that such drives can be successful. We must care for our planet and for the future generations and ensure that they lead a wholesome life too.

Some online companies sell present sleepover invites. Make use of them if you don’t have the time or inclination to make the invitations yourself. Line up lots of fun activities to do at your party. This can be anything from games as simple as charades or truth or dare to makeovers or fashion shows!

Some fun activities you can try:

  • Make a dessert bar! Serve your guests ice cream and get toppings like whipped cream, chocolate chips, hot fudge, marshmallows and cherries.
  • Give yourselves makeovers or makeunders and take lots of crazy pictures!
  • Try singing up a storm! Have a karaoke session. The sillier the songs the crazier the fun you have!
  1. Most people try to stay up all night during sleepovers. Make sure this is okay with your parents and try to have the sleepover where you won’t disturb the other members of your household.
  2. Have lots of food around. Midnight snacks are a special part of sleepovers! Try to stack up on the usual junk food like ‘shores and candy bars or if you have want to have healthy food pretzels and popcorn. Take care of special dietary needs of your guests, if any.

By- Sadhana Chathurvedi

Prom is something that students will be looking forward to, all through high school. This is one event where you look back upon aftertaylor swift prom 20 years. So make sure to appear supreme and have a great time at your prom!

First, consider if you want to go with a date or with a group of friends. Ask out that person you’ve had your eye on, or maybe even a special friend. Or if you think that you don’t want to spend the biggest night of your high school with someone you barely know, just go with your friends.

Choosing your dress

It takes time in selection of fine dress. Be patient to get the adorable one. Think about whether you desire this to be a one-time prom dress or something that can be worn on other special occasions. Great style doesn’t necessarily come with great prices. There are a lot of dresses under a hundred dollars. Plan for the dress a month in advance to the Prom or go for good deal on the internet. Prom magazines sometimes offer special discounts, keep an outlook for these. Know yourself. Pick up a dress that highlights your positives and moderate the negatives.

Opt for stylish shoes and that doesn’t take the smile off your face even if you dance the night away! Practice walking on high heels before, if you are not used to them, to save yourself from any embarrassing situations on prom night.

Your Hair

Deciding on how to do your hair can be a harrowing time, so plan in advance. Visit a stylist and have a consult. However, if you aspire to do your hair at home, take the help of a friend and mend your hair the way you want it to be on prom night. Have an assessment of this to avoid  a last minute hair emergency.

Nowadays, it is a trend for girls to wear jeans. So have a rehearsal to walk gracefully in your gown.

If you’re going with a date, don’t forget to buy a corsage! You can never go wrong with a simple red rose. Also inform him about the colour of your dress so that he can order a flower that goes with the dress.

Remember to re-confirm   your appointments with your stylist/manicurist on prom day.

Taking videos is a great way to remember your prom night, but don’t forget to take oodles of photographs that lasts long.

The Limo

Talk about transportation with your parents. If you want to hire a limo, book it early. You can even decorate your or your parents’ car and make it your very own limo!

And finally, look after yourself on prom. Don’t be pressurized into making unwise decisions just because it’s prom night. You should be able to glance onto it without regrets!

by- Nidarshana Sharma

shopping tipsShopping is a woman’s best friend. Some women are spendthrifts and love spending on shopping; some others shop when they’re happy and some others when they’re depressed. Surprisingly, many women consider shopping the perfect stress buster. The reasons may be plenty, but shopping is an integral part of a woman’s life.

Window shopping is also a fun activity which many women indulge in. It’s not just the women, but men too have joined the party. Window shopping is a great way to kill time and have fun especially when you’re in a group.

We shop for various items. But women largely expend on apparel and shoes. There are women who boast of large collections of shoes, which sometimes touch 100 pairs. Then again, there are clothes. Jeans, capris, T’s, jackets, blouses, and scarves- women are crazy about them.

Brands are an important factor which women bear in mind while shopping. Some women are very particular about the brand they patronize and regularly purchase only that brand, and others experiment and keep switching brands. Generally, women are not known to be brand freaks and buy good quality stuff irrespective of the brand. But when it comes to shoes and some other accessories like sunglasses or bags, some women are very choosy and stick to only some brands, some of which are designers.

Since women shop quite regularly, it becomes important to keep a few tips in mind to shop better and spend effectively and on the right product.

1. Arrive early and get a good parking spot. If parking is a problem, take a cab or the bus/train.
2. Do not carry too many items with you already. Your shopping baggage is in itself a lot to carry.
3. Make sure to carry sufficient cash with you but do not overspend.
4. Before you leave, eat well because shopping can be quite tiresome. You can also pick up something on the way.
5. Wear a button dress so that it’ll be convenient for you to change.
6. Make a list of items that you need especially if you’re going grocery shopping.
7. Most stores start their weekend sales on Thursday or Friday morning. If you wish to avoid the maddening weekend rush, you could go on these days instead.
8. Don’t stick to just one store. Always try out a few options before zeroing in on one.
9. If you’re purchasing clothes, make sure they fit you well and are not too loose or tight. While buying denims, pay particular attention to the fitting.
10. Before purchasing, check the condition of the clothes.
11. If you’re buying shoes, buy them in the late afternoon. Walk around in your shoes and only if you feel comfortable buy them.
12. If you’re buying cosmetics, ensure that they have no side effects. If it’s a lipstick that you’re purchasing, pick a color you like and try it out first.
13. While purchasing a bag, choose a color which is neutral and looks good with all kinds of clothes. Buy a fancy one if you need to use it for outings, ditto with jewelry.

Always remember, whatever we buy, we spend our hard-earned money, so spend it wisely.

By Rachel Allen

Who Will be the Next Lindsay?

After failing what could be the most career-defining drug test in Hollywood history, Lindsay is back in rehab for a fifth attempt at rectifying her drug and alcohol addictions. While the tabloids await her trial, set for the end of October, it’s hard not to speculate on the seeming finality of this most recent failure. After unfavorable reviews for her most recent film “Machete,” and the prospect of going back to jail, Lindsay’s career might truly be over. Though she will probably never disappear (there will always be those rooting for her comeback), her career could very well be relegated to TV shows, or even TV movies.

The specifics of her future are hazy, but the star power she proved early on is undoubtedly extinguished. If anything, more than a career recovery, the public is simply rooting for her to have a legitimate recovery and stay clean.

So what does this mean for the industry that has invested so much time in Lohan? Not much, really. While her comic wit will surely be missed, there is no shortage of young Hollywood starlets eagerly waiting to take her place. A few in particular have been noted as potential Lohan heiresses – some because of their bourgeoning talent, and some because of their not-so-subtle rebellion. Here are the top contenders for the Lohan crown:

1.  Miley Cyrus – Clearly the frontrunner, Cyrus has taken every chance she’s gotten to distance herself from her quirky Disney-TV show beginnings. As “Hannah Montana,” she was idolized by the 8-13 age range, but quickly Cyrus grew tired of sharing her fame with the character, and broke out on her own as both a musician and actress. Her music has caused a bit of worry, morphing from pop power ballads into autotuned messes, aided by trashy clothing and pantslessness. On the acting side, her most recent film, “The Last Song,” received a bit of praise, but the proof of her potential film stardom is in the numbers: the film grossed over $88 million in less than two months.

2.  Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez – These two best friends are almost the same person in most peoples’ minds. Similar Disney careers, pop albums, and dating Jonas brothers, these girls haven’t made the leap out of Disney’s grasp just yet. Yet they both have good comedic timing and mass appeal. The only question is: will they go down the partying, Vanessa Hudgens naked-photo scandal route, or actually attempt to become something serious; to become more than cute, stock Disney characters.

3.  Taylor Momsen – Little Jenny Humphrey from “Gossip Girl” is the actress who has most progressed down the spiraling Lindsay road to destruction, completely without inhibition. Lead vocalist for a grungy band and wearing clothes from stripper stores has done nothing to help the 17-year old’s anarchistic tendencies. If she hasn’t entered into the world of drunken parties or drugs, it’s hard to believe that she won’t start soon.  She was so innocent on the show at first, and quite good actually, so it’s sad that both her character and public image have degenerated. As most people who watch the show actively hate her character and public persona now, she didn’t even have the time to shine like Lindsay did before people started getting tired of her.

4.  Dakota Fanning – Playing Cherie Currie to Kristen Stewart’s Joan Jett in “The Runaways” was the first indication that Fanning is trying to grow up. Now 16, Fanning has had the career that most parallels Lohan’s. From a successful child acting career to becoming a tween idol (she is in “Twilight,” after all), to acting in serious, dark films (“Hounddog,” anyone?), Fanning has all the makings of true stardom. And luckily, all reports and interviews prove her to be a very down to earth and grounded kid – one who can hopefully avoid getting sucked into the world of tabloids and scandals. If so, Fanning could own the career that everyone was hoping Lohan would have so badly.

Linsay Lohan may well be the most important tabloid celebrity in this generation, but it is time for her to bow out as gracefully as she can, get her addictions under control, and let the new generation of starlets take over.
