{September 23, 2010}   No time for breakfast? Think again!

No Tome for Breakfast? Most people tend to skip breakfast inspite of the many studies that show how important and essential it is,to the well-being of anyone! If you still think breakfast is not all that ‘important’ here are a list of reasons to convince you otherwise

> If you skip breakfast you can actually GAIN weight. Yes, it’s true. During the early hours of the day your body has been deprived of glucose for the last 8 hours and if you skip breakfast you tend to binge or over-eat later in the day. Recent research shows that people who eat 2 eggs in the morning lose more weight than those who don’t.

> Skipping breakfast causes you to be irritable and tired by mid-morning.

> Those who skip breakfast  usually have a low attention span, lack of alertness, low blood sugar and longer reaction time. This effectively decreases your productivity for the day.

> Not eating regularly also puts you at a risk for long-term nutritional diseases like anaemia, loss of bone, decreased thyroid function, susceptibily to cold and fever.

Now I hope that this, has convinced you, but it’s not easy to get rid of habit that you’ve harbored for a long time. So let’s look at some reasons for not eating breakfast and their remedies.

> If you think that you “don’t have time” , then just think, how much time does it take to eat a bowl of cereal? Or even if that’s too much for you, for starters, just grab a piece of toast on the way to school or work.

> If you’re not hungry in the morning, this is usually because you’ve had a late meal the previous day. When this happens the stomach doesn’t have enough time to digest the food the previous night and when you sleep the digestion process slows down and you wake up with a full stomach the next day. Hence, finish eating dinner by 6.30 p.m. at the latest.

> If you don’t like eating breakfast foods, it isn’t necessary that you eat breakfast foods. You can eat anything, or you can make a breakfast smoothie with milk and fruits.

> If you’re obstinate that you don’t like breakfast, it is in your best interest to eat it and therefore start liking it.

Easy breakfast foods to get you started:

>Ready-to-eat whole-grain cereal topped with fruit and a cup of yogurt

>Peanut butter on a bagel with fresh fruit (banana or apple wedges) and low-

fat milk

>Vegetable omelet with a bran muffin and orange juice.

>Make Healthy Pancakes or Waffles. Have you ever considered topping your pancakes or waffles with fruit?

>Choose Fruit for Breakfast. Fruit gives you fiber. Fresh fruit is the best choice.

Finally, make breakfast a priority. Health is by choice, not chance!
